that’s the question I ask myself all the time when considering online education , why should someone be forced to put their trust in somebody else – a teacher in another country – they’re not paying any real money and they’re not actually communicating directly with each other about education. The professor could be a complete douchebag, the course could be a complete joke, and the students are completely clueless. As an aside, online education is a complete and total scam . It’s just this scam I don’t personally buy into as a consumer. What does online education do? It simply lays the groundwork for a new kind of robo-call where someone sits in their home with a call center – basically like those college admissions calls, with your student number – to advertise an online course. You buy a package and then it’s all “good to go.” From what I’ve seen so far online education does nothing that I would pay for. Personally, I still believe that traditional learning is the way to go and I am so happy to have met my professor by chance – in a natural setting. I was browsing the course catalog, looking for an on-campus instructor and the first class listed I recognized the face. I looked up and it was someone I’ve been in class with all year long. That was the perfect scenario for me. I’m still not going to get to take a complete course, but I can still take the course I’ve already paid for. At the same time, I’m not paying for something I don’t actually want. There’s no “standard” for online learning and I am not looking for some level of accreditation for what I’m
